Covid - 19 Protocol
BC Health Minister has announced that phase 2 of the province is starting May 19th, which means Osteopathic treatments can return! This list covers the new protocols for treatments please take a moment to read through:

  • The day prior to each scheduled appointment I will contact you to go over the BC Covid-19 Self-Assessment tool: https://bc.thrive.health/covid19/en

  • You will be asked to reschedule if you have fever, cough, difficulty breathing or are feeling unwell. During this time the 24 hour cancellation requirement will be waived if you need to cancel due to new symptoms.

  • I will also assess myself each day prior to work with the BC Covid-19 Self-Assessment tool
  • Patients are encouraged to wear a mask, you can bring one from home or the clinic is able to provide you with one.
  • Patients are asked to wait in their car a minute or 2 before their scheduled appointment time to minimize traffic in the waiting room.
  • Appointments will be spaced by 15 minutes between each appointment. The treatment room will be thoroughly sanitized, along with myself following rigorous hand washing protocol.
  • Both Okanagan Health and Performance, and Westside Medical have extra protocol for physical distancing in waiting rooms, and increased cleaning/ sanitizing in common areas.

Osteopathy is a manual form of therapy which emphasizes the interrelationship between structure and function of the human body. It follows a belief in the body’s ability to self-heal and self-regulate. Osteopathic practitioners don’t see themselves as healers, but instead as FACILITATORS to health.

What to expect?

Osteopathic treatment start with a full body assessment looking for areas of restriction. After these areas have been identified the practitioner works to increase mobility and function in that area. The practitioner is considering your whole body including:  muscles, joints, ligaments, fascia, nerves, arteries, veins, organs and your lymphatic system.

TECHNIQUES - Techniques used include:
  • Soft tissue techniques
  • Muscle energy techniques
  • Articulation - gentle joint mobilization

COMFORT - For your comfort you are encouraged to wear clothes that you can easily move in, and that aren't restrictive. There is no need to wear only sports bra or shorts, as practitioners we are highly trained in palpation and can feel through clothing layers.

TREATMENT PROCESS - Just as it has taken time for your body to develop aches, pains and injuries it takes time to unwind all the areas of restriction in your body.  Generally you notice results after the first few treatments, but to get you functioning optimally it may take some time and more sessions. Keep in mind though it is not our goal to see you forever, we want to be you healthy and well so that go on your own and you only need to see us when an issue arises.

PREPARING FOR YOUR TREATMENT - you don't need to do much in preparing for your treatment, but if you are planning on working out that day it is highly recommended to exercise prior to your treatment. A relaxing walk is always encouraged following a treatment to allow the changes to integrate with your body.
